Orders of battle given are for US troops actively engaged in the Niagara and Lake Champlain campaigns of July 1-November 15, 1814.
Unless otherwise stated, all artillery batteries are 2nd and 3rd US Artillery Regts., US Corps of Artillery
Information is given for unit strength at time of joining parent organizations, plus reinforcements received while in the field, thus reflecting maximum number assigned to each seperate unit.
Those units indicated as present at Niagara and Buffalo are field units of the Army of the Niagara, which operated on the American left flank, while those indicated as present at Sackett’s Harbor and Plattsburg garrisoned the stratigically placed fortress-depots that secured the American right flank.

The above totals do not include certain numbers, such as the number of emplaced guns in the defenses of Plattsburg, Sackett’s Harbour and Ft. Erie. Nor do these numbers reflect the Marines and ships’ crews assigned to the naval squadrons on Lake Ontario (homeported at Sackett’s Harbour) and Lake Champlain (homeported at Plattsburg). Also not included in this order of battle is BG Duncan McArthur’s brigade of cavalry from Ft. Malden since they were assigned to the Army of The Northwest, even though they raided deeply into the territory in which the Army of the Niagara operated.
Finally, not included in this order of battle are the Federal, volunteer, state, and militia units of infantry, cavalry and artillery that were stationed away from the front, but considered to be a theater reserve in case of a successful break-through by the British.
